What is Governance and why is it important?

There is no real definition of Governance, but if an attempt is to be made it will be that Governance is a set of processes, rules and guidelines by which an organisation operates. It is primarily about structure and processes for decision-making, accountability, responsibility and ensuring that everyone in the organisation follows appropriate and transparent processes to ensure that the interests of all stakeholders are represented and protected.

Governance influences:

  • How the organisations goals are set and achieved to improve the organisations performance
  • How the risks are monitored and managed
  • How performance is measured and goals are achieved
  • Unlock new opportunities

Good Governance ensures that an organisation can build a reputable and healthy culture within the organisation and achieves the organisations goals

MIAG Limited & MIAG Education, known as ‘MIAG’ for the purposes of this Safeguarding Statement undertake to protect children and young people who receive our services from harm.

This statement will provide staff and volunteers, as well as children and young people and their families, with the overarching principles that guide our approach to child protection and safeguarding.

Policies are guides for employees of organisations around specific areas and outline the organisations expectations, Policies are also important for Stakeholders and Service Users as they set out clearly what they can expect from the organisation. It is important that Policies are reviewed on a regular basis, at least annually, or when a situation has arisen that has resulted in organisational learning.
